Ardor

The companion that follows up until you actually do the thing

An accountability app with a companion character, Ardy, that checks in, follows up and grows with you — built on a pure TypeScript engine with more than a thousand tests, plus a marketing site and waitlist.

Overview

To-do apps remember what you planned; they don’t care whether you did it. Ardor is built around follow-through: Ardy checks in, nudges and celebrates until the task is actually done.

The scheduling and follow-up engine is pure TypeScript with no platform imports, covered by over 1,000 tests, so the same logic can serve Android, iOS, web and desktop.

A Next.js pre-launch site runs the waitlist, and a product “brain” documents vision, timeline, architecture, retention and metric gates for every phase.

The problem

To-do apps remember what you planned and leave the follow-through to you. Reminders get swiped away, lists only grow, and the people who most need accountability are the ones who avoid the app.

Ardor is built around follow-through instead: a companion that reads how you're doing, adapts when and how it nudges, and escalates only when it matters.

The Expo app renders and reports events; a pure TypeScript engine decides what to nudge, when and how.
  1. 01

    Detect the state

Six emotional states — intention, drift, active avoidance, overwhelm, guilt spiral, flow — evaluated with deterministic rules, first match wins.

  2. 02

    Rank the work

A priority queue scores urgency with hyperbolic discounting and the procrastination equation, weighted by deadline and how often a task was ignored.

  3. 03

    Time the nudge

SM-2 spaced repetition adapted for procrastination, with state multipliers, quiet hours and peak hours.

  4. 04

    Vary the message

The novelty engine rotates tone, channel, template and sound so nudges don't habituate; two ignores escalate to a full-screen alarm.

  5. 05

    Learn from the outcome

A feedback loop adjusts the ease factor — up for fast completions, down for snoozes and ignores — and a verifier discounts suspicious completions.

Features

Follow-through engine

Check-ins and follow-ups that adapt until the task is done, not just reminded.

Ardy the companion

A character with moods and growth levels that reacts to your progress.

Tested core

Pure TypeScript engine with 1,000+ tests and no side effects.

Waitlist site

Next.js and Supabase pre-launch site with a waitlist.

Highlights
  • 01Expo / React Native app in strict TypeScript
  • 02Notification bridge isolated behind its own service layer
  • 03Architecture decision records for every major choice
  • 04Marketing, retention and metrics playbooks in the product brain
Key decisions

The engine has no platform imports

All scheduling and follow-up logic is pure TypeScript with no side effects, so it can serve Android, iOS, web and desktop — and be tested exhaustively.

Science over streak gimmicks

Urgency and timing come from hyperbolic discounting, the procrastination equation and spaced repetition, not fixed reminder intervals.

Escalate, but with compassion

Repeated ignores escalate to a full-screen check-in, while a guilt spiral triggers a compassion reset instead of more pressure.

Rewards you can't farm

A completion verifier flags mass-completes and too-fast ticks, so XP reflects real follow-through.

What's next
  • →Launch the waitlist and pre-launch site.
  • →iOS build and widgets from the same engine.
  • →Metric-gated phases from the product brain before each expansion.
